Elvia and The Lost soul

Prologue

It's dark and the sky seems to be getting duller by the minute. Soot-colored clouds on the opposite side of the field appear. Growls deep and low seem to be coming from it. In the distance, a village can be seen. On a normal day, one would see this land as almost magical, because normally the sun was out, and sprites were zooming in and out of the wheat fields. But now it was dark and lonely. Well, that is except for two young women who seemed to be having a heated conversation. Their names were Elvia and Dae Draglo.

"NO! I said no! I will not let you sacrifice yourself to Sephtis. He will kill you! He might at least take me hostage." Shouted the woman who was dressed in knights' armor.

The other woman threw her hands up and laughed. "Elvia! How is that any better? Sephtis will kill you eventually! There is no way of escaping!"

Elvia spoke, "I am doing what's best for our people…"

"No." Dae interrupts, "No you're not. Look around you! You are the protector of this land and without one we are vulnerable. So, let me do this for us. For everyone else. It's my time."

With tears glistening in her eyes the elder spoke, "I'm sorry. But...I...I can't lose another family member."

Dae smiled, "I'm not asking for permission anymore." With that, she quickly trips her sister and runs toward where the dark clouds are. Red eyes are in the darkness and the form of a man is coming out of the clouds. The man is cloaked with a black cape and has two large hounds at his side.

The strange man laughs and the hair on the back of Dae's neck stands up. "Go and get her and bring her to me alive."

The Hounds attack Dae and she screams. Elvia attempts to get up but finds that she cannot move. She could clearly see Dae being dragged into the darkness though. When a black cloth shielded Elvia's view, she knew immediately who it was.

"Well wasn't that a spectacular performance. And you had the best seat in the house." He laughed.

"What are you going to do to my sister Sephtis?" growled Elvia her anger evident.

"Oh. None of your concern. The real question is what am I going to do with you? After all, there can be no witnesses." He said, smirking and raising his staff. All of a sudden a light brighter than anything Elvia had ever witnessed appeared and a woman with such radiance stepped out of the light. "Step away from her Sephtis," she said with confidence.

"Or what you'll send some butterflies to take me down? You're excessively soft Amayo. You need to toughen up." he sneered.

"Oh, you underestimate me. Because if I was you I would just look down. They are definitely not butterflies and might pinch a bit." He shot back.

A loud yell right by Elvia's ear sounded and strong hands yanked her up. Scorpion's with large stingers came into view.

Sephtis snarled “You win this round Amayo but next time we meet you might not be so fortunate. Until we meet again." And with an exaggerated swish of his cloak, Sephtis was gone. Leaving the sky's clear, blue and beautiful looking like nothing happened. But left behind was a tragedy because in the middle of a field a young woman named Elvia was crying for her sister. The part of her soul that was lost.

Chapter 1

A week had passed since Dae’s death and Elvia had now finished mourning her sister. She was going to get revenge if it was the last thing she did. Sephtis was going to pay for the loss of her sister.

“But who could help me find him?” She wondered aloud. Elvia turned around when a certain painting caught her eye. It was old but if anyone could help her it was the young man in the painting. The King. Her parents had known him well, but she had no relocation of him. But right now, he was her best bet. ‘Well, it seems like I know where I’m headed now.’ She thought. Grabbing her satchel and her staff Elvia started the long walk to the Castle.

The Journey to the Castle was calm and peaceful for a two-hour journey. She saw a couple of gnomes and some fairies. The woods were beautiful for that time of day. The pink, blues, and purples of the flowers and the lush greens of the trees were blooming with intensity. The rays of sunshine seeping through the trees and the sparkling water of the river was more magical than ever. “How could something so beautiful exist at such a terrible time?” Inquired Elvia.

Soon enough Elvia reached the castle but as she reached the gates she began to wonder if coming was such a good idea. She began to turn around to head back the way she came. But someone called her name. “Elvia! Elvia Drago!” Quickly spinning back, she saw the King. “Well what do you know.” She muttered. “How do you still remember me.” She asked. “Well you see I’ve been keeping tabs on you and your sister since your parents died. It was their last request to me that I keep track of you two girls and keep you as safe as remotely possible.”

“Well then you haven’t been keeping very good track of your tabs.” Snapped Elvia. He looked confused at the outburst. “What do you mean? I’m up to date on everything. The guards who informed me…” “They obviously have misled you. Because as of a week ago I became the last of my family.”

“WHAT!! Why wasn’t I informed of this!” Shouted the King. “If you don’t mind me speaking, why weren’t you keeping track yourself like you promised?” Elvia said with one eyebrow raised. The King spluttered, “What! You think I have time to check on you?` I have better things to do such as ruling my kingdom.” “If you can’t keep a promise don’t make one.” Said Elvia with anger. “You know what, you're not able to help me if you couldn’t help my parents,” She said with disgust, “I’ll look somewhere where someone can keep their promises. Goodbye, your highness and thank you for your time.”

“Wait! I might be able to help you find the man who murdered your sister.” Elvia turned, “I don’t think I told you someone killed my sister. I just mentioned her death.” With that statement Elvia drew her sword. “Who are you?! You are not the King!”

The man smirked “And here I was thinking you were stupid enough to fall for my disguise. I mean what kind of man would pretend to be the King? Oh that’s right, I’m no man.” With a wave of his hand, his true form was revealed.

“Sephtis,” breathed Elvia. “But how… the king…”

“Oh, the old man has been out of business for years now." Waving his hand again and putting the mask back on. "You truly are stupid, do you really think he would let me take your sister. Him being on the throne was a problem. His magic was too strong. Without his permission to enter the border I could not pass through into the Land of life. So I pretended to be one of the outlanders. And with that permission I entered the land. I infiltrated the crown and here I am. And since I am the King… GUARDS ARREST HER!”
